Common Hurdles in the Treatment of Urinary Incontinence
About This Course
Managing urinary sphincter mechanism incompetence in dogs is fairly straightforward in most cases, but there are times when patients do not respond as expected or practitioners have to modify the “usual” treatment in the face of comorbidities. In this presentation, Dr. Julie Byron will cover the various medical options for managing this condition, their pros and cons, and the most appropriate patient population for each option. Dr. Byron will also review how to handle medication transitions and situations when alterations in care may be needed, such as in patients with comorbid conditions, patients that are challenging to medicate, and those experiencing side effects. The presentation will conclude with a discussion of alternatives for dogs that do not respond to standard medical management.
