About This Course

In 2022 and 2023, veterinary medicine saw the release of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors for the treatment of feline diabetes mellitus. This drug class increases glucose and sodium excretion into the urine, thereby reducing hyperglycemia independent of insulin secretion. This presentation will share real-life clinical cases to provide the audience with a “cliff notes” version of everything there is to know about SGLT2 inhibitors in treatment of cats with diabetes, including appropriate patient selection and screening, indications, monitoring, and adverse effects. Future applications of SGLT2 inhibitors in other species and diseases will also be addressed on.
